A New Market which has been built at Nibong Tebal, Province Wellesley, by Mr. Ki Lai Wat of Sungei Bakup, was formerly opened by the Resident Councillor on Friday last, the 20th inst.

ST. XAVIER'S FUND HITS $63,000 MARK 

PENANG, Fri. - St. Xavier's Building fund has totalled $63,175.50, according to the third list of donations today. 

The school hopes to raise $2,000,000 for a building now being constructed on the bombed site at Farquhar Street. 

Latest donations include $25,000 from Mr. Heah Joo Seang, chairman of the building fund committee and $1,000 from Mr. Jules Martin.

Penang fund for World Refugee Week 1961

Penang fund at $4,400 

PENANG, Tues. - The Penang fund for World Refugee Week has reached $4,400. 

This includes donations of $1,000 from Mr. Heah Joo Seang and $500 each from Mr. Saw Seng Kew, chairman of the fund subcommittee, and Mr. Loh Boon Siew. 

Donations should be sent to Senator Cheah Seng Khim, the treasurer, care of Adams Road, Penang.

Straits Chinese Epworth League New Year Hospital Fund 1927

NEW YEAR CHARITY. 

Straits Chinese Epworth League Activities. 

Contributors to the Straits Chinese Epworth League New Year Hospital Fund are informed that the League visited the Tan Tock Seng Hospital, the men's leper ward, Kwong Wei Siew Hospital and the women's decrepit Ward at the General Hospital, on January 30, and distributed useful presents of singlets, towels, Chinese paper, soap, wooden sandals, oranges and apples to the 1,381 patients. 

The League also arranged for a makan for women lepers at the Asylum at Yeo Chu Kang Road. 

The amount collected this year is $895 making with last yeaar's balance of $20.19, the sum of $915.91. The presents and makan cost $864.45, while transport, printing and other items amount to $37.40 making in all the sum of $901.85 spent. The balance in the hands of the League Treasurer is thus further reduced to only $14.06. 

The League desire to thank Bian Seng and Co. for assisting in collecting subscriptions, the Oldham Hall boys and others for distributing the presents and the following for their generous contributions:

The staff of St. Andrew's Hospital beg to remind their friends that they have opened a Christmas Fund, and that gifts of money or kind will be most gratefully received. Many friends who helped last year are away from Singapore, but it is hoped that others will step in and fill the breach. 

The undersigned undertakes to collect the fund which will be acknowledged in the usual manner (Straits Times daily paper). Any amount subscribed in excess of requirements of the Fund will be passed to hospital expenses.
